Biden campaign advisers have announced that they intend to incorporate the guilty verdict in the recent case brought against former President Donald Trump by Democrat Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg into political advertisements. This decision should not come as a surprise to anyone.
Politico reports that Biden advisers are striving to maintain “Trump’s felony conviction at the forefront of the minds of voters who have not yet fully engaged in the election.”
“We have observed in polling since the conviction that the more the conviction is at the forefront of voters’ minds, the more detrimental it is to Trump,” an anonymous Biden campaign pollster stated to the outlet.
The pollster stated that the research indicated that Trump’s conviction “could be effectively used in a broader depiction of Trump as being self-centered and unwilling to take responsibility for his actions.”
Throughout the trial, Trump maintained that the allegations of violating New York state laws on falsifying business records were “election interference” intended to assist Biden in the election. The ruling is being appealed by Trump.
The Biden campaign’s intention to capitalise on the guilty verdict as part of a $50 million June ad purchase in battleground states now supports Trump’s claims.
The Biden campaign officials stated that the plan was “part of an ongoing effort to frame the election around a character contrast between the two candidates.” Politico published the following:
They contend that Trump’s felony convictions are evidence of their overarching message that he is acting in his own interests, a theme they have repeatedly emphasised since Trump secured the nomination earlier this spring. Additionally, they emphasised the latter half of the advertisement, in which they contrasted Biden with the notion of “working” for voters to reduce health care costs.
Michael Tyler, the communications director for Biden, stated, “It all boils down to the harm that he is going to cause to people because he is advocating for one individual, Donald Trump.” “This is true of his criminal convictions and of all of his intentions for a second term…. As we approach the debate, that is the connective tissue that we are constructing.
Prior to the verdict, the Biden campaign officials frequently downplayed the trial. However, they have since admitted to Politico that it was “nearly impossible” to predict the impact of a conviction on voters until it occurred.
Politico was informed by a second pollster for the Biden campaign that it is imperative for the campaign to “maintain it in the voter’s consciousness and prevent it from evaporating.”
